Business? BUSY-ness!

A modern business-themed board game that provides players an immersive experience of the competitive business environment of the current world.

Board Game Description

Competition exists everywhere in the world, especially in the business industry. “BUSY-ness” is a modern business-themed board game that educates players on the competitive business environment of the current world. This board game also motivates the player to be an upright employee and eliminate the existence of vicious competition. Four players can play at the same time at maximum; two players are needed at the minimum. Each player represents the boss of a company and has the power to allocate employees. With Daily Event Cards, Mission Cards, Strategy Cards, players use their brainpower and luck to compete against each other. Well, the boss’ brainpower and luck are also the most essential determinants in a business’ success!

INSPIRATION -

As the clubhead of my school’s business club and having competed in state-level competitions, I had always wanted to create an intriguing way for others to learn business. When I saw the news of a company using tricks to cunningly make employees work overtime just to exceed the performance of their competitor company, I was determined to make a game that reflects both the business values of healthy competition and discourage behaviors leading to vicious competition. Using Daily Event Cards as an example, while some events promote the pursuits of diversity and collective identity, causing favorable results, other events include cheating and other selfish behaviors, leading to harmful results. Through this game, I wish the players to experience a positive and competitive working environment in the business industry and use their intelligence to solve problems, while understanding the harms of vicious competition.

RULES

  1. Winning conditions: a) When the Sanity value of one company’s CEO equals 0, that company is eliminated. When 3 companies are out, the remaining one wins. b) When one company’s performance value reaches 20, the company wins.

  2. Starting asset: 3 Character Cards, 5 Strategy Cards, 1 Mission Card

  3. Each player draws one Daily Event Card and two Strategy Cards per round.

  4. One player can only draw another Mission Card after completing the previous mission.

EMPLOYEE “BATTLES”

The employees’ Diligence value translates into their attacking power; Stamina translates into their defending power. When two employees from different companies walk into one block, unless certain cards are in effect, the battle automatically starts. The employee whose Stamina is lower than the other employee’s Diligence gets eliminated. The extra damage will go to the CEO and decrease the CEO’s sanity.

STRATEGY CARDS

The 19 Strategy Cards demonstrate the player’s management skills in business. Utilizing these strategy cards wisely requires making clever decisions. As a business manager, you need to know which employees to promote, how to maintain a good relationship with your employees and motivate them, how to be more successful than your competitors, and how to recruit the most capable employees

DAILY EVENTS CARDS

There are 29 Daily Event Cards in total, each containing a favorable, neutral, or unfortunate event that happens during the work day. This set of cards represent the unpredictability in the business industry. Effects of these cards are various, including changes in certain employees’ movement, number of employees, the company’s total performance value, employee’s promotion, certain employee’s Diligence or Stamina values, and etc.

MISSION CARDS

There are 25 Mission cards, each giving out a mission for the company’s employees to accomplish. This set of cards indicate the risk-taking, strategies, and accomplishment in business. The player has to take risks, make smart decisions, and allocate employees to accomplish these missions, which add Performance Value to the companies depending on the level of difficulty.
